It’s almost midnight in Fort Wayne, and in less than nine hours I’ll start a journey that I’ve been waiting to begin for months. For me, it’s not really about walking 500 miles, although I certainly plan to do that. It’s not even about raising money for the Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, though I can’t imagine a better cause.
For me, this is all about challenging myself. It’s about setting a goal, doing whatever is necessary to get ready to meet that challenge, and then doing the best I can to achieve what I set out to do. Over the next five weeks, I’ll be walking roads I’ve never seen, meeting people that I would never come across otherwise, and seeing parts of Indiana that I never even knew existed. I’m excited about doing all of that, and I’m looking forward to sharing the entire experience with you through my daily blog on this website.
A couple of other things before we get started in the morning. All of our sponsors are teriffic, and I don’t intend to slight any of them, but I think two in particular deserve extra credit. Wheaton World Wide Moving is not only a primary sponsor, they stepped in and lined up RV drivers when we ran into some unexpected last minute complications. And Camping World has provided us with an RV for the journey that is nicer than the vast majority of places I’ve lived in over the years. Good thing, too, as I’m not really into camping. I last pitched a tent when I was in boy scouts, and the camping experience was my least favorite aspect of scouting, which is saying something in that I enjoyed scouting about as much as Bullwinkle enjoys moose season.
Let the journey begin.
