Not a lot to report today. People in Indiana continue to amaze me, though that shouldn’t be the case. I’ve lived here long enough to know the character of the people in this state, so the fact that they’re so generous – even in a time of economic distress – shouldn’t surprise me. Still, I’m gratified by how well we’ve been received in the four days since we started, both in terms of attitude and enthusiasm and actual financial support. Today alone, at least 15 people either pulled up beside me in cars, walked out from their homes or businesses along the side of the road, and in once case rolled to the side of the road in a wheel chair just to offer words of encouragement or thanks and/or donate to the Wish Fund. My intent when this journey started was to raise money for the fund, and while that remains the case, I’m starting to think that no matter how much we are able to generate through this walk, I’m going to end of getting more out of this than the kids will.
Picked up another blister on my right foot today. Meanwhile, my left foot remains unscathed. Is it the shoes? Is it because I’m right handed? Do I list when I walk? Who knows? Not to worry, though. As long as I have my trusty razor blade at the ready, I’ll be fine. I am looking forward to the first day off on the trip Sunday, though. I think I’ll need it.
