I Could Have Been a Hell’s Angel

08/27/2010

Not a lot of time to write today, because I’m heading to a high school football game tonight, but I did want to mention a little bit about my night with the bikers in Metamora.

It’s not really quite as exotic as it sounds. I met a guy named Brian in Laurel Thursday afternoon. He had just finished his mail route and mentioned that his wife’s sister and her husband owned a place in Metamora called The Hearth Stone. He said a group of folks met there every Thursday, enjoyed a motorcycle ride to some predetermined locale, and then returned to the restaurant afterwards. So we hung out at the restaraunt tiki bar – featuring a huge waterfall –  and had a great time with the biking folks, and even got April and Sheena (the fabulous bartenders) to wear Wish Walk t-shirts. Plus, Roger, the owner, served White Russians in glases that were about the size of small flower vases, and he let us park the RV in his parking lot overnight when we discovered that the campground we had planned to invade no longer existed. Good times.

By the way, I forgot to post our remaining stops yesterday. Tomorrow, we hit Milan, then next week its (in order, from Monday to Saturday) Holton, North Vernon, Seymour, Columbus, Nashville, and Bloomington. The week of September 6th we’ll be in Spencer, Clay City, Farmersburg, Terre Haute, Brazil, and Greencastle, and the week after that it’s Raccoon, Crawfordsville, Romney, Lafayette, Colfax, and Lebanon. Finally, we’ll hit Zionsville September 20th before finishing at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the 21st.

I’m off to the football game in Milan. I’ve been asked to participate in the opening coin toss, which is ironic in that I could barely even get on the field when I actually played high school football.

Saturday’s Journey: Batesvllle to Milan

Mileage: 16.2 (the longest snake ever measured was a 33 foot long python. This leg is the equivalent of 2,592 of those cuddly fellows)

On the iPod: Nothing. Going with the iPhone and Pandora, just to mix things up a bit.

P.S.: We’re off the Flintstones Internet connection and back to high speed, which means I’ve posted a bunch of new photos on my Facebook page (Mark Joseph Boyle).
