The above, for those of you that may not be aware, was the signature phrase that Paul Harvey used to open his radio show for decades. Some would see my use of it here as plagiarism. Others would see it as a form of tribute, and still others would see it for what it really is: a cheap way to label a blog from someone too lazy to come up with something creative.
Today, I’ll be walking from Terre Haute to Brazil, and I’ll have company. Susan Skelton, who has been a big asset to our Pacer broadcasts from behind the scenes, will meet me in just a few minutes at the Denny’s on US 41/150 and we’ll head out.
Normally, I enjoy my solitude. Even as a kid, I flew solo most of the time. except for when I played ball. I liked to read and do crossword puzzles (and don’t think a 10 year old whipping out a pencil and the daily crossword from the Minneapolis Tribune didn’t draw some biting commentary. Even at that age, young men can be creatively cruel), and it’s never bothered me at all to be alone. Still, over three weeks into this journey, I’m glad Susan will join me today. I’ll also walk with Kevin Lee next Tuesday. Kevin is one of the most versatile broadcasters in America, and does a teriffic job on our broadcasts, plus he handles the sidleines on the Colts radio broadcasts and handles a number of auto racing assignments as well.
I realize that he above paragraph was not particularly clever, amusing, thought provoking, idiotic, enlightening, juvenile, inspirational, or sophomoric. I’ve tried to be all of those things – with some success, I think – in earlier blogs, but I have a logistics problem today, the reasons for which are too boring to get into here, and as a result I will not have the time or the resources to blog later today. Still, I wanted to post something so those of you that care – and I’m assuming exposure to these daily blogs has made that an ever decreasing number – would know that I’m still out here alive and kicking.
Thanks for checking in.
Saturday’s Journey: Brazil to Greencastle
Mileage: 18.3 (coincidentally, this is the same number that Vegas oddsmakers have established as the over/under for the number of NFL players that will wind up in some form of hot water for Twitter posts this season. Take the over. Ocho Cinco will have that many violations all by himself)
On the iPhone: PTI, The Rachel Maddow Show, and the CD Silk Degrees from Boz Skaggs
